There is no way I would ever volunteer here again. I volunteered a few years ago when I was recovering from addiction and mental illness. I was really timid and quiet because I had been socially isolated for some time. The paid staff were really awful to me. They were rude and looked down their noses at me. I left with my self esteem being even lower than when I started. You people do not care about the disadvantaged in your community. You don't want to empower people, you want to keep us down so that we are forced to rely on you. You are elitist and you can't even see it. Disgraceful.

The Byron Community Centre has been a proud supporter of @sharethedignity for 4 years and is participating in their current August Dignity Drive. This August, Share the Dignity are asking the public to donate pads, tampons, period underwear, incontinence pads, menstrual cups etc. to give those in need the dignity they deserve.

Their last Dignity Drive in March was cut short because of COVID-19 and they predict that more and more Aussies will need their help as a result of the pandemic.

Please help us support Share the Dignity's efforts by donating period products. The Byron Community Centre is a collection point for your donations and we happily accept them during office hours Mon - Fri, 10:00am - 16:00pm, 69 Jonson St. Simply ring the doorbell. Thank you for your support 💕

In 2019, we provided 30 hot showers on average per week to locals in need. Our Homeless Showers project was active throughout the COVID-19 lockdown and supported vulnerable locals. The demand for this essential program continues to grow and we welcome donations to buy necessary supplies like shower gels, razors or sanitary products.

Next Byron Community Market Sunday 2nd August

It would be lovely to have a day out at the Byron Markets this Sunday, for some good music & food, we plan to bring our own stools & wear masks, but how are the organisers going to deal with the number of people attending ?
