The footbridge is currently being child proofed.Work on the Brunswick Heads footbridge balustrade has commenced this week to improve safety.

Please note that the footbridge will be closed for works from around 7.30am to 8am and reopen at about 4.00pm daily.

It is expected to take several weeks to complete, weather depending.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

When the Brunswick Heads Preschool was held in the Scout Hall, we had numerous parents with small children cross the footbridge every day and not one child fell into the water (to my best knowledge). Such a joy to see the fish in the water on their way to a happy morning at preschool!

Why can't we just put up a sign to say that if you are crossing this bridge with a child we advise you keep them within arms reach. So many children walk this bridge every single day and it's a wonder for them to look down at the river and see below. Will this be taken away from those children? When my kids were little and we crossed this bridge we held their hands, simple and safe.

Why not some sort of barrier you can see through??? I have so many memories of walking across this as a kid and loving the fact I could see the fish etc.

How about the council put this money into fixing bruns , ocean and Mullum roads? Instead some spoil sport tourist who needs to blame someone for their poor parenting and not watching their child resulting in the incident and now this... they come here to enjoy the ‘simple pleasures’ and want to change everything

I remember when the boy who lived in the campground managers quarters had an annexe to his bedroom and used to fish out the window. It was during the eighties and the footbridge was pretty rickety. That's why we visited Bruns for the simple quirky pleasures.

How ridiculous and what a waste of money. As kids we went over that bridge hundreds of times - and never fell in! Then, my own kids went over it again and again - and never fell in! Maybe parents need to watch their kids a bit closer! Now, we're going to have kids trying to climb over the green 'stuff' to see the fish in the water! 🙁 🙁

I walked that bridge many a time in my day, don't remember anyone falling in. I can see kids trying to get a foot hold somehow to look over the 'safety' barrier now.

Exactly, probably the same 2 or 3 people that complained about the carnival.. they won’t rest until they get their own way

this footbridge has been there for so long, and i have never seen any problems on it. wrapping up kids again.

this is rather OTT - now the little ones won't be able to SEE; and are more likely to CLIMB - not well thought out team 🙁 even another row of timber would have been smarter!!!!!!!!

Is it really about safety or about BSC fun police looking for something to do? Money better spent tidying up Bruns' streets 🙄

Anne-maree Brett Hine bit odd never saw a problem with this bridge...

Can’t see that lasting very long!

Some amazing pics here of the river at high tide yesterdayWe had the biggest high tide we've seen on the river in our 6.5 years of operation. It was a beautiful morning and the water was crystal clear. We saw stingrays and fish so clearly it was like gazing into an aquarium. They were too quick for me to get a photo! Here is how the scenery looked on the high tide. #byroncruises

If you haven't done this cruise please do so, it's brilliant, loved it, great for taking visitors to see our beautiful river and bird life.

Love burns. However came today and the town needs some serious weeding done near the beaches. That old toilet block on torakina needs to be rebuilt as well. The council needs to spend some money on the town for sure. Come on Byron shire!!!

Love Brunswick....In the 1950’s I learned to swim in the water adjacent to the Norfolk Is pine trees. 🙂

Morning cruise sounds nice; but you haven’t put departure time in there

Michaela of course we miss the king tide

Fortunately the river wasn't flooding. The next new moon should be interesting too.
